Como comenté en la desgrabación de la semana pasada, Los Provincianos fue otra de las tantas agrupaciones que se conformaban desde el sello Victor para la grabación de música argentina. En el caso de Los Provincianos, la dirección quedó a cargo del bandoneonista Ciríaco Ortiz, un tipo que supo poner en el fuelle su carácter, diferente a otros íconos de esa época como Pedro Laurenz o Pedro Maffia. Asimismo, tanto los arreglos y la elección de repertorio de Los Provincianos son muy diferentes a lo que se curtía en la Típica Victor (dirigida por Adolfo Carabelli).

Los Provincianos nos dejaron muchas menos grabaciones que la Victor, pero definitivamente un color de orquesta diferente que vale la pena tener en la oreja.

As I mentioned in last week’s transcription, Los Provincianos was another one of the many groups formed under the Victor label for the recording of argentinian music. In the case of Los Provincianos, the direction was entrusted to the bandoneon player Ciríaco Ortiz, a man who knew how to infuse his character into the fuelle, setting him apart from other icons of that era like Pedro Laurenz or Pedro Maffia. Additionally, both the arrangements and the repertoire selection of Los Provincianos were very different from what was being honed in the Típica Victor (led by Adolfo Carabelli).

Los Provincianos left us far fewer recordings than Victor, but they undoubtedly had a distinct orchestral color that is worth listening to.
